Description

Welcome to a morning with Betsy, a quirky, bath-taking, cigarette-crazed woman whose routine is unlike most. A visit to the gazebo in her local park leads to a joyful moment.

Director’s Statement

Spending much more time at home then I had anticipated in the confines of my childhood bedroom eager to create, I began to dream up an eccentric character by the name of Betsy. At the heart of the many films I have been lucky to make are unique characters whose ways of experiencing the world are singular. Betsy is no exception— quirky gestures, unconventional costumes and varied shot sequences combine to advance the storytelling. This film also allowed me to pursue my long-held interest in the long shot: an uninterrupted, uncut scene shot in real time. This technique creates the illusion of a live viewing experience, something that was sorely missed during the pandemic. I particularly wanted to use the long shot for the dance portion of the film, combining the movement of Betsy’s free-spirited expression with the technical challenge of capturing it holistically.
